Epstein® Dry Eye Forceps-
For treating meibomian gland dysfunction and amniotic membrane placement.
Meibomian gland expression is essential for restoring meibomian glands’ function and maintaining a healthy tear film. In many dry eye patients, there is an accumulation of debris and biofilm that collects on the surface of the lid margins, which obstructs the meibomian glands leading to inspissated meibum and then ocular surface inflammation. The expression procedure can be performed periodically as part of a recurring ocular surface hygiene program.
Note: A lid heating method and debridement should also be performed prior to manual gland expression to improve expression efficacy.
Healthy meibomian glands should express lipid with minimal pressure and flow with the consistency of olive oil. Unhealthy, inspissated meibomian glands require greater force and flow with the consistency of toothpaste and will not be clear in color.
This is a non-reimbursable procedure and is typically cash pay.
